Gurunathan Govindan’s works are extraordinary in the way that they casually induce a wondrous sense of depth in the abstraction. While we observe a unique palette, we also see a knack for textured forms. His genius lies in the elegant dance between colour, texture, and geometry. Nothing else is truly needed, but the love for the pigments that are carefully informed on the composition. Neon yellows meet lamp black and grey; cotton pink meets a salmon-red and crafts a brilliant electricity between the forms. Emotion soaks through the work creating a fantastic, porous surface that absorbs one's gaze, therefore altering their perspective ever so pleasantly.

Gurunathan earned his B.F.A and M.F.A. from the University of Madras, Chennai and is the recipient of the State Award at Lalit Kala Academi, Chennai (2003); Ovia Nun Kalai Kuzhu Award, Chennai (2014)

Guru’s selected solo shows include ‘The Untitled Exhibition’ Art Houz Gallery, Chennai (2019); and selected shows - ‘Kinetics: Sensation’ Gallery Veda, Chennai (2019); ‘Pigments on the Plane’ Delicatessen Gallery, Paris (2017); Summer Abstract, The Noble Sage, London (2011).

He also completed a five-year residency with the American International School in Chennai.
