Janarthanan’s works evoke the spiritual nest of the body, combining the mind’s multi-dimensional approach to creativity in novel ways. He simply takes the body as a whole and reinterprets its vulnerability into a whorled strength. He also deals with both private and public philosophies, the way self-reflection becomes an exterior expression, and the movement of the body, both on the micro and macro scale. Whether it is the consciousness of the mind that is translated or a coordinated sense of movement, we are called to reflect on our soul’s intricacies. The tangible textures combine to create a wonderfully layered effect, reflecting his own history, visual philosophy, and environmental influence.

Janarthanan graduated from Madras University, Government College of Arts with a B.F.A. and M.F.A in Painting.

 

His recent solo shows include ‘Nest’, Artworld Gallery, Chennai (2016); and 'Care', Apparao Art Gallery, New Delhi (2009).
